Within was commisioned by the Mayzsoul Dance Company in the fall of 2007. The commision asked me to tell my life story. What I chose to do is tell the musical story of my life. The piece is filled with the paths that I have traveled listening and performing. As time progresses, waves of sound move in and out, as different influences affect the overall texture. As one influence fades, a new sound comes to the surface with time constantly present carring insistently on.
